OUR BRAND HERITAGE

The success story of Victoria Hyde London is also the story of its founder, Tian Yao, a successful entrepreneur who left her rural home in her early twenties to embark on the international business world. She now looks back on 20 years of experience in the design, production, and retail of fashion accessories for men and women.

Growing up in a small town far from the major cities of northern and eastern China, Tian was raised by two hardworking parents according to the Chinese philosophy: "Women carry half the sky"—meaning that men and women are equal. From an early age, she had to independently organize her life, her education, and her career, developing the values that remain cornerstones of her professional identity today: reliability, independence, resilience, and "always keep moving." By the time Tian graduated from high school, her ultimate goal was clear: complete independence through building an international company.

Her first international milestone was a year abroad in Singapore. There, she founded a small tutoring business to earn funds for her Master's degree in International Management, which she completed at the University of Sunderland (UK) in 2003. Immediately afterward, Tian moved to London and founded her first company, which would later become the Buy Best Direct Group of Companies (BBD Group), with over 200 employees, its own design teams, offices, and production facilities in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, the US, China, Hong Kong, and Kenya.

When she founded Victoria Hyde London as her own fashion accessories brand within the BBD Group in 2014, Tian had not only worked for some of the most influential British fashion brands and chains—such as Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, NEXT, and Topshop—but was also raising two children alone while navigating the sometimes stormy waters of international business—all while constantly balancing her personal, family, and professional lives.

It was then that she first realized that traditional handbags were more of a hindrance than a practical and supportive companion that met a woman's actual professional needs. It was then that she experienced firsthand in London and Hamburg—where she now works—how digitalization and modern working practices were fundamentally changing the functionality requirements of fashionable handbags. And so it was at this point that the idea for NEW WORK BAGs was born.
